Robert Ward, Davenport, Iowa, was only 9 when he started snapping photos of trucks with a $3 Brownie camera at Harlan’s Triangle Truckport near U.S. Highway 6, which, in 1951 provided a coast-to-coast route for truck freight. Ward has published many of his total 5,000 truck photos in the Wheels of Time and Old Time Trucks and is a lifetime member of the Owner-Operator’s Independent Drivers Association.
