4 Million Miles

Charley Endorf of Werner Enterprises recently reached the 4-million mile mark.

Werner Enterprises recently honored Charley Endorf for reaching 4 million miles. Endort, who drives a dedicated route from Omaha to Denver three times a week, joined the company on June 15, 1976.

The 54-year-old trucker was born in Lincoln, Neb., and he and his wife, Kay, live in Fairbury with their grandson, Clayton. They have one daughter, Tammy, who lives in Colorado Springs, and two sons, Burnie, who lives in Plattsmouth, Neb., and Cliff, who died in a 1991 car accident.

Companies Merge
Shaffer Trucking Inc. and Sunflower Carriers combined the operations of two temperature-sensitive companies in January to form Shaffer Trucking, a division of Crete Carrier Corp. Along with Hunt Transportation, all the divisions comprise the Acklie Companies, which operates 5,500 tractors and 13,000 trailers, providing customers dry van, temperature sensitive and flatbed/specialized services.

“The new Shaffer division will provide our customers one of the largest temperature sensitive fleets in the industry consisting of 2,700 state-of-the-art trailers,” said Chairman Duane Acklie. Operational functions will remain in New Kingstown, Pa., and York, Neb., and will closely coordinate the daily activity with the dry van business of Crete Carrier in Lincoln, Neb.

Sitton Drivers
Sitton Motor Lines recently recognized the following drivers for logging more than 1 million miles with the company: Jerry Chesnut of Sherman, Texas; Eric Carr of Potlatch, Idaho; Wes Hughes of El Reno, Okla.; Joe Tolliver of St. Louis; Eddie Brazil of Bethlehem, Ga.; Weyman Parmley of Joplin, Mo.; Thornie Brailsford of Sumter, S.C.; William Stratz of Mountain View, Mo.; Christopher Brazel of Oklahoma City; and Jackie Stutts of Brandon, Miss.

Sitton also named owner-operator Jason Ray of Joplin, Mo., as the August 2002 Driver of the Month and Clyde Guthrie of Nevada, Mo., as the September 2002 Driver of the Month.

Ray has been with the company for more than a year. Guthrie has been with the company for five years. They each received a driver of the month certificate, a Sitton jacket, $150 savings bond, and a tool/flashlight. They are now eligible for 2002 Driver of the Year.

Yellow Orders 154 New Volvos
Yellow Transportation Inc. has ordered 154 Volvo VNM daycab tractors for delivery in the first quarter of 2003, according to Volvo Trucks North America. Yellow will take delivery of the new Volvo trucks through its long-time dealer, Westfall Volvo and GMC Truck, Kansas City, Mo.

Yellow’s new Volvo VNMs are a mix of single- and tandem-axle tractors. Each is powered by a Volvo VED12 engine. The VED12 complies with the EPA ’02 emissions standards, which went into effect Oct. 1, 2002.

Drivers Recognized
Paschall Truck Lines recently awarded three drivers and three owner-operators with driver of the month honors. For July, Mike McChristian was named Owner-Operator Driver of the Month and Richard Alstat was named Company Driver of the Month. In August, Frank Feltner was named Owner-Operator Driver of the Month and Lavada Ashcraft was named Company Driver of the Month. For September, Michael Waring was named Owner-Operator of the Month and Rhonda Gates was recognized as the Company Driver of the Month.

Star Transportation, Inc. honored 17 drivers in December for their safe driving efforts.

Chuck Spitler was named the October 2002 Company Driver of the Month for Contract Freighters Inc.

CFI Drivers of the Month
Contract Freighters Inc. recently named its October 2002 drivers of the month.

Company Driver of the Month was Chuck Spitler of Greenville, Ill., who joined CFI seven years ago. Company Team Driver of the Month was awarded to Oscar Torres and Miguel Barriga of El Paso, Texas. Barriga joined CFI four years ago and Torres two years ago.

Contractor of the Month was Mike Yarbro of Lawton, Okla., who joined CFI in 2000.

Contractor Team of the Month went to Stacy and Donna Moran of Granbury, Texas, who joined the company in 1998.

Winners are automatically nominated for the 2002 year-end award in their respective
category.

The Company Team Driver of the Month award for October 2002 went to Oscar Torres and Miguel Barriga.
