Evening closures for 60 Freeway near Los Angeles

Updated Dec 19, 2011

Westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway east of Los Angeles will be closed Monday and Tuesday nights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. between the 605 and 710 freeways as state transportation officials demolish a bridge over the heavily traveled road.

The freeway was reopened Dec. 17 after being closed Dec. 14 when a tanker carrying 8,800 gallons of gasoline caught fire and stopped beneath the Paramount Boulevard overpass. Heat from the fire was so intense that concrete in the overpass exploded, media reports said. The tanker driver and a passenger were uninjured in the blaze.

The 60 is a major east-west commercial roadway in Southern California carrying goods from Los Angeles area ports east to Riverside and San Bernardino. Alternative routes include the I-10 and I-210 freeways The 60 freeway remains closed between the 710 Freeway and Rosemead, Caltrans said.
