Plot: It’s a story of the Civil War from the South’s point of view with Abigail Dowling, a Northern abolitionist, right in the middle of it. It also features Flower, a slave who was fathered by Ira Jamison, the plantation owner who founded Angola Plantation. Willie Burke, a boarding house owner’s son, teaches Flower to read.
What was your favorite scene in the book? When Abigail saves Willie, who has been wounded in battle and left to die, and takes him home, feeds and clothes him. Then she has a fight with him when he leaves to go back to war.
Which character was your favorite? Why? Willie Burke, because he followed his heart even when it felt wrong. Flower Jamison, because she has great courage and a good heart.
Did the book have a message or theme that stood out to you? Yes, friends are important no matter what happens, and we can overcome any problems in our lives if we believe we can.
What’s best (or not)? It all came together from the start, and the people were well defined. Each person was whole, and you felt like you knew them.
Would you recommend? Yes, it is an overall good book to listen to. It has history and a little romance, fighting – something for everyone.
Narrator’s style: Will Patton does a very good job reading. However, there are a few places where you need to turn up the sound; he gets quiet at times when he is talking for the women.

Plot: A young woman working for a New York museum is found dead in a stone sarcophagus, and the mummified princess who is supposed to be in it is missing. While searching for the killer of the young woman, Alexandra Cooper, an assistant district attorney, and Michael Chapman, a police detective, uncover some things that some people wanted to keep hidden.
What’s best (or not)? I liked Alex and Michael. For me there were too many characters.
Would you recommend? I think that to really enjoy the book, you need to be interested in museums.
Narrator’s style: Blair Brown did a good job of reading the book.
