There is always a newness about America that few other countries can offer, and none on such a scale. An eager, steady process of building and reconstruction, renewal and revitalization is always going on. Optimism is constant. Its intensity may vary between good times and bad, but doubt is a rare visitor to our world.

There is a vibrancy about the American way of life, a sense of the possible, a natural reaction to look for ways to do things with an assurance that the answer is out there somewhere. We’d rather try than let the odds dissuade us.

Robert F. Kennedy put it this way: “There are those who look at things the way they are and ask ‘Why?’ I dream of things that never were and ask ‘Why not?'”

Comedian George Carlin is said to have cracked, “Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don’t have time for all that
