Up to 23 tornadoes, the Weather Channel reported, touched down in areas from Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas to Nebraska yesterday, Monday, Nov. 17, and into Tuesday. Accompanied in some instances by hail, the many touchdowns fell amid a long line of storms as a cold-weather system moving east collided with warmer air masses.

Severe weather alerts continued to be issued into midday Tuesday by the National Weather Service, particularly in areas of Eastern Arkansas and Texas and into Louisiana.

A tornado watch remained in effect through 6 p.m. Central for central/eastern Arkansas, including Little Rock, Hot Springs and Pine Bluff, reported the Weather Channel, and through 4 p.m. Central for parts of East Texas Western Louisiana and Southwest Arkansas.

Tuesday night and into Wednesday, the Weather Channel reported, the threat of severe thunderstorms would move east into Mississippi and Alabama.
