Alert: FMCSA says these crude tanks must be repaired, retested before hazmat use

tytal tankA safety advisory has been issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for certain cargo tanks manufactured by Trailers Y Tanques De Aluminio (TYTAL).

The cargo tanks have been found to have inadequate accident damage protection, and some have inadequate venting capacity of pressure release systems.

Affected tanks (USDOT No. 2164338, CT-12407) have a capacity of 8,400 gallons, 8,717 gallons and 10,500 gallons, and are primarily used for the transportation of petroleum crude oil, FMCSA says. The tanks are not in compliance with Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations.

Tanks must be repaired and retested before being used in hazmat service, regardless of the tank’s last test and inspection date. Owners and operators found using the tanks before repair and retesting will be subject to immediate enforcement and fines, according to FMCSA.

TYTAL representatives have communicated to FMCSA that they have informed their known customers about the problems and that they have begun repairing the tanks free of charge. Distributors, owners and operators are encouraged to contact TYTAL to coordinate the repairs. TYTAL or their representative can be reached by email at [email protected], by telephone at 011-52-828-269-0030 or online at www.tytal.com.mx/en/.
