It’s a banner month for first-time trucking shows in my home state of Tennessee. After Nashville last week, not to be outdone, of course, is Memphis, the site of the first annual Memphis Trucking Expo, presented by the folks at Worldwide Transport and Permit Service. If you missed Jan McCarter and Doug Jones Janand Doug(pictured) in Nashville last week, tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 23) is your chance to see them live.

What’s more, unlike the Nashville show, the Memphis Trucking Expo includes an educational program that will be of interest in part to drivers. One particular session, geared toward “people who have decided to be in trucking” and haven’t made the jump yet or those already in the business looking to hone their industry knowledge, is being led by Allen Smith, proprietor of the Ask the Trucker blog and host of the Truth About Trucking online radio show. Smith will present 50 points in eight core areas both new and experienced drivers must be adept at navigating to find the right carrier and succeed in the industry: foundation, fairness, concern, treatment, support, communication, worth and interest
