ATA Supports FMCSA in HOS Suit

The American Trucking Associations has filed a motion in support of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in a case involving the agency’s hours-of-service rule.

ATA asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia for permission to intervene in support of the agency in a petition filed last month by Public Citizen, Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways and Parents Against Tired Truckers.

The groups requested that the court review the agency’s hours-of-service rule issued in April. They charged that the new rule increased driving time more than 20 percent, which would increase fatigue among truckers and decrease performance and ultimately safety.
The petition also protests that the rule does not require on-board recorders.

ATA has endorsed the rule as safe for the industry.
