The Spellman Files – Lisa Lutz

For 28-year-old Isabel Spellman, life consists of 24-hour surveillance, routine investigations into her acquaintances, and listening devices planted in her deadbolt-locked room. Having grown up in a family of private investigators, wiretapping and coercion are a regular part of the Spellman family dynamic.

When their parents hire 14-year-old sister Rae to follow Isabel in order to find out the identity of a suspected new boyfriend, Isabel is furious and quits the business. But her parents make her a deal: solve one last case – one that is decades old and with more twists than a pretzel – and her employment contract with Spellman, Inc. will be declared null and void. Isabel throws herself into what she thinks is the most crucial case of her life. But when her sister Rae disappears, “crucial” takes on a whole new meaning.
