Listening Time: 7 hours
Publisher: St. Martin’s
Retail: $29.95
Genre: Political thriller

Plot: U.S. intelligence agent Todd Belknap is let loose from his job and tries to find a fellow agent who has been kidnapped. Andrea Bancroft has joined a charitable foundation and becomes suspicious of the foundation’s activities. Todd and Andrea cross paths and then computer hacking, assassination, arms smuggling and chaos is at their every turn.

What was your favorite moment? Todd breaks into an Internet high-security office in the Caribbean to track the nemesis he thinks is responsible for his fellow agent’s disappearance. He’s looking for the final clue to the whereabouts of Genesis, the mastermind of chaos.

Which character was your favorite? Genesis, the one everyone is looking for. He is trying to bring free will back to the world and eliminate global conspirators trying to control world events.

What was the book’s message or theme? The forces of good trying to control world events will always betray the utopian moral ideology and slip back to evil.

What did you like or dislike? I liked the descriptions of world events with an explanation of the history behind the event or location. I disliked how Todd is portrayed as unemotionally responsive to outside influences.

Would you recommend this book to friends? Yes, it’s very fast-paced and unpredictable.

Narrator’s style: Scott Sowers is a great narrator. I’ve listened to books read by him before, and boredom is never a problem.

How would you grade the book? A+

The Mist – Stephen King

Originally published in 1980, The Mist is being re-released with a full cast and 3-D sound to coincide with the release of the feature film version this month.

Stephen King’s sinister imagination and the miracle of 3-D sound transport you to a hot, lazy day in a sleepy all-American town, where a sudden, violent storm leaves behind a mysterious mist that traps you in the supermarket with dozens of others, cut off from your families and the world. The mist is alive, seething with unearthly sounds and movements. To one side – and whipping around your chair – a slither of tentacles. Swooping down upon you, a rush of grotesque, prehistoric wings. In the impenetrable mist, hearing is seeing –
and believing.
