Avoid Olympic Traffic Hassles

Many items will be trucked in during the Olympic Games, and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee and the Utah Trucking Association want to help alleviate traffic problems for truckers. The following routes and travel times are recommended.

I-15
Recent expansion makes this the preferred route. Expect only moderate congestion from Feb. 9-24.

U.S. Highway 89
Affected by: Snow Basin Ski Area on event days. Expect heavy congestion on Feb. 10, 11, 13, 14, 16 and 17. Route is subject to weather delays. Use I-15 as an alternate route. Paralympics will also impact area in March.

Recommended travel time for truckers: Northbound from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.; southbound from noon to 4 a.m. on event days.

I-80
Affected by: Soldier Hollow, Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Utah Olympic Park on event days. Expect congestion eastbound for four hours prior to events in the mornings, and for four hours westbound after events in the afternoons, Feb. 9-24. If possible, avoid travel during these dates. Use I-84 as an alternate route except on Feb. 10, 11, 13, 14, 16 and 17. Paralympics will also impact area in March.

Recommended travel time for truckers: Westbound from 4 p.m. to noon; eastbound from noon to 4 a.m. daily.

U.S. Highway 189 and U.S. Highway 40
Affected by: Soldier Hollow, Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Utah Olympic Park on event days. Expect heavier congestion in the mornings from 6 to 11 a.m., and moderate congestion at other times from Feb. 9-24. Paralympics will also impact area in March.

Recommended travel time for truckers: From 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

I-84 and I-80
Affected by: Snow Basin Ski Area, Soldier Hollow, Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Utah Olympic Park on event days. Expect heavier congestion in the mornings and moderate congestion at other times from Feb. 9-24. I-84 is an alternative to I-80 for truck traffic. Paralympics will also impact area in March.

Recommended travel time for truckers: Northbound/westbound from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.; southbound/eastbound from noon to 4 a.m. daily.

I-215

These interchanges will be affected by spectator travel to multiple events. Expect heavy congestion from Feb. 9-24. Avoid if possible.
