Everything’s bigger in Texas, including the fifth annual Great American Trucking Show on Sept. 26-28 in Dallas. Exhibitors and attendees from around the country will be in Dallas to see and display the newest and most innovative products and technology in the trucking industry. Last year more than 35,000 industry professionals representing all 50 states and 30 countries exhibited or visited the show, and this year promises to be even bigger and better.

Bring the whole family because there’s plenty of entertainment and fun in store. Friday night, Sept. 26, Diamond Rio, sponsored by Mobil Delvac, will perform hits like, “I Believe,” “Beautiful Mess,” “One More Day” and “Love a Little Stronger.”

On Sept. 27, Volvo Trucks North America will present country star Tracy Byrd in concert. Byrd’s top singles include “Just Let Me Be in Love,” “Watermelon Crawl” and “Keeper of the Stars,” named Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.

Free tickets for both concerts will be distributed at GATS on the day of show, starting at 10 a.m. They are on a first-come, first-served basis, while tickets last.

This year GATS will host the Fleet Pavilion, a special area for fleet owners, executives and employees to see products that relate just to them. Seminars, produced by the Texas Motor Transportation Association and CCJ magazine, will give fleet owners and fleet executives valuable information to help them run their businesses more effectively.

Truck parking has just been made easy at GATS. Now big rigs can park on more than 12 acres of free parking next to the convention center within the Reunion Arena lot. Of course, there will be the usual fun and entertainment that so many truckers enjoyed in the past at Fair Park, except that this year it will be within walking distance of the convention center.

Freightliner will sponsor the first Big Rig Re-Do at Overdrive’s indoor Pride and Polish Truck Beauty Contest. Six lucky Freightliner owners will receive a free makeover by professional interior designers for their cab’s interior. Stop by and watch the designers create a totally new look for the cab interiors complete with “before and after” photographs.
And last, but not least, Truckers News will officially recognize its 2003 Great American Trucking Family.
