Business and pleasure

If you can’t justify going to Dallas for three days of fun, then call it business. Not that there’s any shortage of entertainment at the Great American Trucking Show month – you can’t beat two free concerts – but it’s also a serious venue for advancing your business.

There are daily educational seminars that address many timely issues, and dozens of fleets eager to talk about doing business with you.

The best two hours you could invest will be the Aug. 24 Partners in Business seminar. You’ll learn great tips, market analysis and owner-operator benchmarks from ATBS, the nation’s largest owner-operator financial services firm. You’ll also receive a free 2007 Partners in Business manual. For reservations, call (205) 248-1301. The free event is brought to you by Overdrive, ATBS, Castrol and Freightliner.

Those same four partners will present the Partners in Business Retention Forum, Aug. 21-23 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. Fleet attendees who arrive early in Dallas won’t want to miss it. Registration is available at www.piblive.com.

Another Overdrive function is the Pride & Polish competition. You can view these chromed-out beauties throughout the show at the Dallas Convention Center.

The show’s second day, Aug. 24, will be capped by Aaron Tippin in a concert sponsored by Mobil Delvac. The Wreckers will perform the next evening, sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America.

GATS also offers prize giveaways, celebrity autographs and hundreds of exhibitors, including major truck and engine makers.

I hope to see you there!
