C.R. England gives quarterly Harley to fuel-efficient driver

C.R. England awarded a 2014 Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883 to Gerry Blake, one of its company drivers, for showing improvement in miles per gallon average and average idle percentage for the fourth quarter 2013. This is the 11th Harley-Davidson awarded to drivers by C. R. England in the fuel efficiency promotion.

Blake, of Mesa, Ari., drives a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia for England’s Western Regional Division.  He has been with the company for about three years.  Blake accomplished an average MPG for the fourth quarter of 7.61 while maintaining an idle percent of 9.3 percent.  His MPG was close to 6/10th greater than his peers in his fleet and division. Blake ended the quarter being 100 percent compliant on his fuel stops.

Blake noted three things that contribute to his fuel efficiency: progressive shifting, keeping all tires properly inflated and using cruise control whenever possible.

The other finalists in the competition were Leeman Foss, National Division; Walter Jones, Dedicated Division; Benjamin Radakovich, Dedicated Division and Michelle Williams, National Division.

The fourth quarter promotion, which ran from October 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013, required drivers to have met the following: availability at 75 percent or higher, an average mpg of 7.2, an idle of less than 16 percent, fuel stop compliance at 90 percent or higher and no chargeable late loads or accidents. Competition included company drivers with a start date no later than October 1, 2013.

C.R. England’s partners in the promotion are Golden Spike Harley-Davidson, Warner Truck Center, Horizon Truck and Leasing, Love’s Travel Stops, IdleAir, Comdata, and Pilot/Flying J.
