Garrett named Trucker Buddy

Arch Wood Protection driver Randy Garrett was named December 2011 Trucker Buddy of the Month, nonprofit educational outreach Trucker Buddy International announced. Jennifer Austin, a fourth-grade teacher at Demorest Elementary School in Demorest, Ga., nominated Garrett for the award for his volunteer efforts with the students in her class. The nonprofit outreach seeks to encourage students' scholastic achievement and promotes a positive image of the trucking industry.

Petro opens in Carnesville, Ga.

A new Petro Stopping Center has opened at Interstate 85, off exit 150, in Carnesville, Ga., TravelCenters of America said. The stop has 250 truck parking spaces, 12 diesel lanes, 18 showers, a Petro Lube service shop with five bays, a truck wash, weigh scale, driver’s lounge, WiFi service and scanning, faxing and copy services, among other amenities. Love’s contributes to tornado relief

Love's Travel Stops is donating $25,000 to help victims of the March 2 tornadoes that devastated sections of southern Indiana and northern Kentucky, the Oklahoma City, Okla.-based travel center franchise says. Longtime customer John Christner Trucking, of Sapulpa, Okla., celebrated its 25th anniversary with the gift of a customized Coronado from Freightliner Trucks. ACT raises contractor pay

Effective March 1, owner-operators with hazmat credentials are eligible to make $1 per loaded mile on every load hauled for American Central Transport Inc., the Liberty, Mo.-based dry van carrier says. Non-hazmat loads are included in the price increase.
