This week we’re resuming our series that takes a look back at some recent product introductions for specific categories and specs. After all, since most of you are busy enough trying to manage your own business, it’s likely you occasionally might have missed a few gear rollouts. Today we’re hitting rewind on some new products relevant to your engines and helping them perform their best.
Perrin’s 18-inch-wide Dynasys SL auxiliary power unit is an automotive-style HVAC system available with a multipurpose HVAC console that fits most day cab configurations and an under-bunk version that accommodates most traditional sleeper cabs. The lightweight system employs a belt-driven AC compressor to generate up to 24,000 Btu/hr of cooling power and heat dissipation from its diesel power plant to deliver up to 8,000 Btu/hr of heating strength.
BorgWarner’s DuroSpeed 2-speed fan drive is designed to deliver cooling for severe operating and vocational truck applications such as construction vehicles and municipal trucks. The pneumatically actuated fan drive is built to reduce engagements for less noise, increased clutch life, minimal dust buildup in the radiator and more available horsepower, allowing the vehicle to achieve higher work output. Its flux ring design is engineered to run cooler, facilitating added bearing and liner durability, while a higher disengaged fan speed helps to prevent engine temperatures from rising too quickly. The fan drive has no spinning air connections to wear, inspect or service.
Vehicle Mounted Air Compressors’ Underhood Lite rotary screw air compressor system is designed for European-style vans. The system is engineered to provide 30 CFM and up to 150 PSI of air and weighs 62 pounds for a small footprint and minimal impact on the van’s payload. Installation kits are available for the 3.6-liter Ram ProMaster, 3.7-liter Ford Transit and 3.0-liter Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
Bergstrom’s No-Idle Thermal Environment system now is available with eNow’s solar power system designed to capture electrical energy from the sun and transfer it to a truck’s onboard battery system for storage. The energy is distributed when needed to Bergstrom’s battery-powered NITE system, communications, appliances, entertainment and engine starting. The solar system charges even when the truck is not in use, reducing carbon emissions, and is customizable with optimized panel sizes, layouts and weights.
Detroit Radiator designed its bolt-on Powercool radiator to be more durable and sustainable and to replace plastic and aluminum radiators and frames. The integrated unit offers advanced technology and a 7-to-8-year lifespan.
Donaldson’s Clean DEF filter is designed to help maintain the quality of the diesel exhaust fluid by removing harmful particulates and preventing plugged dosing valves throughout the selective catalytic reduction system, helping to extend the life of the onboard DEF filter. The Donaldson filter is constructed from heavy-duty fully compatible stainless-steel material with a high maximum working pressure of 300 pounds per square inch and has integrated gauge/sample ports and an internal seal to help prevent contamination on its clean side.
Bully Dog’s manifold for model-year 2003-06 Caterpillar engines is pressure-fitted with high-quality material to help eliminate cracks and leaks and is designed with gradual corners that facilitate better airflow and ports that help eliminate airflow interference. The ceramic coating helps cool exhaust gas temperatures by 100 degrees. The manifold is engineered to provide both increased fuel mileage and an additional 20-30 horsepower, from 20 to 30 hp.
