Continuing Education

I didn’t realize the importance of the trucking industry until I read a sign on the back of a truck: “If you bought it, a truck brought it.” That was nine years ago, when I began working with Overdrive. And it was the beginning of an education that continues to this day.

As I progressed in my sales career with Overdrive, I had the opportunity to call on several trucking companies. I began to do a lot of legwork with Overdrive’s Pride & Polish. I interacted with hundreds of drivers.

I soon learned that the stereotypes I held of truckers being dangerous drivers and unsavory characters were completely off base. It turned out that the typical driver is a solid, hard-working individual whose goal is to support a family and to strive for professional excellence. The most important thing I discovered is that most owner-operators love what they do.

I share these values. I am a husband and father of two boys. Supporting my family is my No. 1 goal. Striving for excellence is something I will continue to do with Overdrive. I absolutely love what I do and the company I work for. The late chairman of our company, Pettus Randall, used to say that if you love what you’re doing, you really never have to go to work.

I am excited about my new opportunity as publisher of Overdrive. I look forward to working with you as we improve the magazine and help you improve your operation.
