Mack and Volvo both have issued truck recalls in relation to the larger recall by Cummins and Cummins-Westport for two of their natural gas engines.

Mack is recalling 1,934 trucks and Volvo 426 trucks equipped with either the Cummins ISL G or the Cummins-Westport ISX12 G. In cold weather, condensation formed in the intake manifold on the engines can freeze and cause the intake manifold pressure sensor to malfunction, which could then cause exhaust temperatures to elevate and increase the risk of fire, according to the recall notices.

The recall is said to affect some 25,000 trucks and engines.

Mack is recalling 2010-2015 model LEUs, 2011-2015 model MRUs and 2014-2015 CXUs. Volvo is recalling 2013-2014 model VNM and 2013-2015 model VNL vehicles.

Authorized Cummins service facilities can upload a new ECM calibration, free of charge, to fix the issue, according to the recall notices.

The recalls affect all major North American manufacturers, as Daimler has issued recall notices for its Freightliner and Sterling brands equipped with one of the affected engines and Paccar has done the same for certain Peterbilt and Kenworth models. Autocar has also issued a recall related to the problem.

A recall notice is also expected from Navistar-International.
