The national average price for a gallon of diesel continued its recent downfall last week, dropping another 5.1 cents during the week ending Aug. 10, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.
The average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel is now $2.617 per gallon.
Diesel prices dropped in all regions across the country with the most significant drop coming in California, where prices dropped 6.4 cents, followed by the Lower Atlantic region, where prices dropped 5.9 cents.
The nation’s most expensive diesel is still in California, despite the big drop, at $2.96 per gallon, followed by New England at $2.847 per gallon.
The cheapest fuel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.487 per gallon, followed by the Midwest region at $2.515 per gallon.
Prices in other regions, according to the Department of Energy, are:
- Central Atlantic – $2.832
- Lower Atlantic – $2.595
- Rocky Mountain – $2.64
- West Coast less California – $2.706
