The national average retail diesel price fell 5.2 cents to $3.729 a gallon during the week ended June 18, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. It was the 10th straight decline. Over the past 10 weeks, the price of diesel has dropped 41.8 cents a gallon. The average price is 22.1 cents below the same week last year. Prices are under $4 in all regions for the first time since early October.
Average retail prices fell in all regions, led by a 10-cent decrease in the California, where diesel nevertheless remains the nation’s most expensive on average at $3.966 a gallon. The smallest decreases were 4.1 cents a gallon in the Central Atlantic, Midwest and Rocky Mountain Region. The least expensive diesel on average was $3.654 a gallon in the Gulf Coast region, edging out prices in the Midwest by a tenth of a cent.
