Diesel price drops third week

Dscn0882 OdFor the third straight week, the U.S. average diesel price fell, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

The price for the week ended Dec. 12 dropped 3.7 cents to $3.894. Over the last three weeks, the national price has dropped 11.6 cents. The latest price is 66.3 cents higher than a year earlier.

Again prices in all regions declined, led by 5.9 cents to $3.848 in the Midwest. California’s average price dropped another 5 cents to $4.122, which is 15 cents a gallon less than three weeks ago. The West Coast, California, New England and the Central Atlantic region remain above $4 a gallon.

The record diesel price was $4.764 in July 2008.
