The uptick pushes the number of consecutive weekly increases to three — the longest streak since the week ended Sept. 2, 2013.
The average price also is flirting with a year to year increase, which it hasn’t seen since the week ended Aug. 12, 2013, when the price of diesel was 4.6 cents higher than the same week the year before. Since, the price has seen as much as a 26.4-cent difference from the same week in the prior year (the week ended Oct. 14), but the gap has steadily been closing since then.
Prices also rose in the most recent week in all regions except the Lower Atlantic, which had a nine-tenths of a cent drop. The Central Atlantic region led all increases with a 3-cent rise.
The California region still has the country’s most expensive diesel, $4.119, while the Gulf Coast region still has the nation’s cheapest, $3.802 a gallon.
