DOT takes action against driver who falsified employment app, carrier in fraud scheme

The Department of Transportation last week announced two federal criminal investigations into a carrier and a truck driver saw action recently.

In unrelated, separate investigations, former ASAP Relocations salesman Wayne Allen was sentenced to 300 hours of community service and fined $4,200 for his role in a scheme to defraud customers.

He and other employees, including the company’s owner, gave customers low quotes on moving service, and then once the moves were in progress, the carrier would tell customers that their furniture and belongings would be taken to storage unless they paid a much higher fees for packing supplies.

Per the DOT’s other criminal investigation announcement, truck driver Arnold Williams was indicted for making false statements on a driver employment application.

In March 2013, he applied to MTR, Inc., and was hired. However, he failed to list previous accidents on his record. In April 2013, he was stopped by a Georgia State Police officer and charged with driving under the influence.

A subsequent investigation into Williams revealed he had been charged in January 2013 with reckless homicide and possessing an open container after a crash involving his tractor-trailer led to one death and three injuries.
