Either Illinois Senator Barack Obama or Arizona Senator John McCain is on his way to the White House, folks, it’s sure. If truckers had their choice, they’d send McCain, according to a poll of eTrucker.com readers, more than 60 percent of whom said in recent weeks that they’d likely vote for the Republican. Tracking the movement of trucking opinion since our last poll, taken in July, we see likely votes headed toward McCain among truck drivers, with Obama’s numbers remaining virtually unchanged; that movement suggests a coterie of drivers out there finally settling on their choice of McCain. Here’s a snapshot:

RECENT POLL:
John McCain — 62%
Barack Obama — 23%
Bob Barr — 3%
Another Candidate — 2%
Undecided — 5%
Nobody — 4%

JULY POLL:
John McCain — 53%
Barack Obama — 25%
Other — 22%

With the election looming tomorrow, it’s likely many owner-operators have already voted absentee. If you’ve scheduled home time around the election for the express pupose of getting to the polls, though, there’s a round-up of election issues for drivers here and in Overdrive’s September issue via this page.
