Electrification services are available at the Baker City, Ore. Truck Corral, the first truck stop location as part of the national STEP (Shorepower Truck Electrification Project) program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
This is the first of 50 truck stops across the country that will be electrified in the next 12 to 18 months through the program.
Power pedestals at the Baker Truck Corral site provide service to 24 electrified parking spaces. The truck stop is at milepost 304 on Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon, about 450 miles west of Salt Lake City and 300 miles east of Portland, Ore.
An Aug. 12 grand opening will include representatives from TSE partners Cascade Sierra Solutions and Shorepower Technologies. Plugged-in demonstration vehicles and shore power compatible products will be available. Vendors and CSS staff will be on hand to answer questions about a 20 percent rebate program for idle-reduction equipment. Shorepower will demonstrate how to use the payment kiosk and plug-in receptacles.
“Using the power grid as an alternative to idling truck engines puts money back into the pockets of truck owners, reduces air and noise pollution in the community, and helps drivers get more restful sleep, which ultimately improves highway safety,” said Dave Orton, CSS marketing and communications manager.
