Family Tradition

Almost everyone knows a trucker who has relatives who are also in the trucking business. Over the years, Truckers News has done a lot of stories about husband-and-wife teams, father-and-son teams and even father-and-daughter teams.

But we know we’ve only scratched the surface. Many truckers are very family-oriented. Various members of the family take pride in the profession and help out in any way they can. The spouse, son, daughter and in-laws may be a part of the driving team, or take over the second truck in the case of owner-operators. Other relatives may do repairs, routine maintenance or paperwork.

There are also a lot of drivers who follow in the footprints of their parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents as drivers. They may have uncles and cousins who drive for a living. Trucking is in their blood. These family traditions ensure the future of trucking has strong foundations on which to build.

Truckers News would like to spotlight the legacies of strong trucking families. This year, as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Truckers News, we will select the Great American Trucking Family. The top family will be announced at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas in September, and will be featured in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

Letting us know about your trucking family is easy: Simply write us a detailed one-page bio about your trucking roots. Tell us about any awards your family members have received. Tell us about trucking or civic organizations to which members of your family belong. Tell us about other activities that family members participate in for the good of the industry or your community. Tell us why you love trucking.

Be sure to include a contact name, address and daytime phone number, and an e-mail address if you have one. Address the envelope to: The Great American Trucking Family, c/o Truckers News, 3200 Rice Mine Road N.E., Tuscaloosa, AL 35406.

You can also e-mail your submission to Truckers News Assistant Editor Tony French at [email protected], or go online at eTrucker.com and look for the Great American Trucking Family icon. All submissions must be postmarked or e-mailed by June 1.

We will review all submissions and contact the winning family prior to the September trucking show.

Truckers often don’t get the recognition they deserve for being role models, good citizens and good family leaders. But your success stories can change all that.

We look forward to hearing from you.
