FLEET HELPS WITH PENTAGON REPAIRS

Stone Belt Freight Lines of Bloomington, Ind., which has hauled Indiana limestone since the early 1950s, is trucking more than 50 loads of limestone to Washington this winter to help rebuild the parts of the Pentagon damaged by terrorists Sept. 11. “It is an honor to be a part of rebuilding America’s command center,” says Ted Benckart, fleet president.



BEKINS AGENTS BUY COMPANY

The 375 agents of the Bekins Co., which includes Bekins Van Lines and Bekins Worldwide Solutions, bought the company from GeoLogistics Corp. for an undisclosed price.

“The agents now have a vested interest in maintaining and growing the customer base and business more than ever before,” says George Gilbert, chairman of the Bekins Acquisition Group. “The interests and goals of the agents, drivers and Bekins management will be one and the same.”

Bekins Van Lines has 150 owner-operators and 1,450 company drivers.



CFI BOOSTS PAY

CFI, Joplin, Mo., increased owner-operator base pay by 2 cents, to 82 cents per mile. The company announced pay increases for company drivers as well.



NATIONAL CARRIERS INCREASE

National Carriers, Liberal, Kan., increased the amount of their entry lease for owner-operators by 1 cent per loaded mile and 2 cents per empty mile to 83 cents on all miles.


AWARDS & RECOGNITION

  • Paschall Truck Lines, Murray, Ky., named Rick Sherrard Driver of the Month for August 2001.
  • KLLM Transport Services, Richland, Miss., honored 22 drivers at the company’s annual Million Mile Awards Dinner.
  • Consolidated Freightways, Vancouver, Wash., recognized Don Vescelius and Joe Rasband, both of Nashville, Tenn., for reaching 3 million accident-free miles.
  • Werner Enterprises, Omaha, Neb., established the Werner Road Team, a panel of 12 drivers who will serve as liaisons between drivers and management. They are Larry Derr, Gary Dugger, Bob Gould, Les Peterson, John Ritzie, Jeff Stack, Jan and Dennis Lass, Herb McArthur, James Tower, Sam Veland and Dudley Welsh.
