Averitt Express wins hospital’s charity award

Averitt Express, based in Cookeville, Tenn., was honored with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Employee Giving Partner of the Year. Since 1990, Averitt associates have donated more than $2.8 million to the Memphis, Tenn.-based hospital.


HONORS

Dart Transit August Contractors of the Month are Eugene Sims and team drivers Grant and Libby Hauge. The Eagan, Minn.-based carrier’s Romeoville, Ill.-facility was recently awarded Sony’s Best Overall Carrier. . . . Steve Crawford, of Steve Crawford Trucking, St. Louis, Mo.; Bruce Eucce, of Bruce Eucce Transportation, Ventura, Calif.; and Nicole Huggman, of A.R. Huffman Inc., Dayton, Ohio, were named FedEx Ground Entrepreneurs of the Year. . . . Ryder Systems driver Lowell Lee, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been named the top driver of Rite Aid’s 7th Annual Driver Skills Challenge National Championship. . . . Transport Corp. of America, based in Eagan, Minn., won Limited Brands’ 2009 Mid-Sized Carrier of the Year, its second consecutive year for the prize.


EXPANSIONS

All Pro Moving & Storage, with a warehouse located in Sterling, Va., has joined Bekins Van Lines to serve the Arlington, Va., and Washington, D.C. area. . . . Averitt Express, based in Cookeville, Tenn., ordered nearly 50 flatbed trailers and has increased its flatbed services in Birmingham, Ala.; Atlanta; Cincinnati; Louisville, Ky.; and Nashville, Tenn. . . . Marten Transport plans to open a terminal, which is expected to create 300 jobs, including adding drivers, in Desoto, Texas, in January 2011. . . .

SalSon Logistics, based in Newark, N.J., added 50 Freightliner tractors. n
