Bennett, Maverick choose Drivers of the Year
Specialized freight transporter Bennett Motor Express named Robert Wilbur, of Acworth, Ga., General Freight Driver of the Year, and John David West, of Raeford, N.C., Heavy Haul Driver of the Year. Winners were chosen from nearly 700 owner-operators who haul for the fleet, which specializes in heavy, over-dimensional and unusual freight. . . . Maverick Transportation, based in Little Rock, Ark., honored 33-year veteran driver Ben Eby, of Caldwell, Ohio, as its Driver of the Year.

Drug and alcohol testing service Compliance Safety Systems honored Dart Transit, J.B. Hunt Transport, Maverick Transportation, USA Truck, US Xpress and WSE Transportation as winners of its inaugural safety and DOT regulation compliance contest. . . . Bolt Express was recognized as Carrier of the Year by the GPSNet Technologies Conference. . . . Marten Transport’s March Drivers of the Month are Joel Abegglen, Jarrett Alexander, Mark Budd, David Circosta, Daryl Dani, James Duncan, John Evans, William Gamble, Stuart Gibbs, Roger Hawkins, Brian Hights, William Howard, Ken Jacobs, Matt Kolleng, Joseph Ngoma, David Parker, Don Patterson, Duane Pepper, Wayne Sanders, Ed Shamburger, Michael Staten, Bob Stevens, Andrew Stitt, Johnny Wattenburg, Thomas Wendt, Carl Westmoreland and Randy Williams. . . . Flatbed carrier TMC Transportation, based in Des Moines, Iowa, was named a partner in the U.S. Department of Labor’s apprentice program, which allows new and current drivers to become accredited through the DOL.
