Maverick Drivers
Maverick Transportation announced its Drivers of the Month for the fourth quarter of 2006. They are Lee Hammond of Norwalk, Okla., October; Tom Collier of Fredricktown, Mo., November; and Buddy Mayle of Culloden, W.Va., December. As Driver of the Month, each recipient also will represent Maverick drivers on the fleet’s Driver Advisory Council.


Millions of Miles
Decker Truck Line recently honored six drivers as the 2006 inductees into the company’s Million Mile Team: Kenneth Harden of Tinley Park, Ill.; William Locke of Fort Dodge, Iowa; William Pena of Mesquite, Texas; Mark Tracy of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Daniel Welsh of Pittsburgh; and Charlie Wilson of Hartford, Iowa.

Nine drivers were recognized for attaining 2 million miles: Larry Beasley of Silvis, Ill.; Mark Gombert of Maquoketa, Iowa; Rodney Graves of Webster City, Iowa; Eric Jensvold of Nevada, Iowa; Donald Lee of Whittemore, Iowa; Richard Muessigmann of Stanhope, Iowa; Art Renken of Aplington, Iowa; Tom Weiss of Clarion, Iowa; and Jerome Ziemet of Algona, Iowa.

Five drivers were recognized for attaining 3 million miles: Allen Chapman of Elgin, Iowa; Marty Delay of Jefferson, Iowa; Steve Jones of Rudd, Iowa; Paul Newman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Maurice “Butch” Olson of Thor, Iowa.


Tri-State Gets Award
Tri-State Motor Transit of Joplin, Mo., recently received the Quest for Quality Logistics Management Service Award. Manufacturers and shippers across the nation cast more than 6,100 ballots. Tri-State placed second in the vote totals, receiving recognition alongside companies such as Schneider, Melton, Roehl, CRST, Pacer and Landstar.


Trucker Buddy of the Month
John Rose has been named the January Trucker Buddy of the Month. He is matched up with Cindy Slovacek’s seventh grade class at Meyersville School in Meyersville, Texas, as well as a fifth-grade class in Savannah, Ga.

An owner-operator leased to O&S Trucking in Springfield, Mo., Rose is the first Trucker Buddy Driver of the Month to receive a set of steer tires from Continental Tire. Also from Springfield, Rose has been a contractor for O&S since 1986.

Sitton Honors Top Drivers
Sitton Motor Lines of Joplin, Mo., has named Robert Morris its Driver of the Month. Morris, an owner-operator from Lake Lotawana, Mo., was previously Sitton’s Driver of the Year for 2000. As Driver of the Month, he receives an embroidered jacket, a $150 savings bond, a framed certificate and a choice of other prizes.

Runners-up for Driver of the Month are company drivers Dennis Bryant of Wewoka, Okla., and James Owens of Tulsa, Okla.


KLLM Receives Hunger’s Hero Award
KLLM Transport Services is the recipient of the 2006 Hunger’s Hero Award, the highest honor given by the Mississippi Food Network. In 2006, KLLM donated a 53-foot refrigerated trailer to the food network to support its statewide vision “to eliminate poverty-related hunger in our service area.”


Averitt’s Over 20 Team
Averitt Express recently honored 15 associates for their individual 20 years of service. The 15 are among the more than 200 Averitt associates who are members of the company’s “Over 20 Team.”

Honorees are Gregory Bayens of Louisville, Ky.; Robert Carter of Jacksonville, Fla.; Gordon Davis of Oneonta, Ala.; Barry Galloway of Louisville, Ky.; Gary Gowin of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Randy Graham of Cookeville, Tenn.; Mark Holscher of Cincinnati, Ohio; John Honeycutt of White House, Tenn.; Jimmy Jones of Lexington, Ky.; Anthony Lands of Boston, Ky.; Mike Mader of Smyrna, Tenn.; Tommy McMurry of Knoxville, Tenn.; Steven Smith of Corbin, Ky.; Mike Sutton of Knoxville, Tenn., and Thomas Warmouth of Cleveland, Tenn.

In addition to joining the Over 20 Team, Barry Galloway also was recognized for reaching his 20-year safe driving milestone.


RWI OFFERS PRACTICAL MILES
RWI Transportation has announced that it now pays owner-operators based on practical miles. RWI, based in Wilder, Ky., is a member of the Castellini Group, one of the largest distributors of fresh fruits and vegetables in the United States.


CFI Drivers of the Year
CFI recently announced its Drivers of the Year. A resolution from the Missouri State House of Representatives and a cash prize, among other awards, were presented to each winner.

George Cook of Arlington, Texas, was named Company Driver of the Year. Cook joined CFI in 1986 and has driven more than 2.5 million miles.

Marvin Peck of Bartlesville, Okla., was named Contractor Driver of the Year. Peck has won the award for two consecutive years. He joined the CFI team in 1984 and again in 2004.

Larry Howell and Daia Elkins were named Company Team of the Year. Larry began driving with CFI in 1991 and lives in Decatur, Texas. Daia joined in 2002 and lives in Granbury, Texas.

William and Vicki Bumgardner of Boerne, Texas, were named Contractor Team of the Year. William began driving with CFI in 1991, and Victoria joined in 2001.
