Schneider Announces Pay Raises
Schneider National has announced a pay increase for its company drivers, who will earn up to $4,500 more per year. In addition, the company says it has improved its dispatch program to get nearly two-thirds of its drivers home on a weekly basis. The company’s new compensation program is for Schneider mileage-based over-the-road, dedicated and bulk drivers.

Compensation varies by experience and region of the country where the driver operates:

  • Inexperienced drivers receive company-provided training and will earn $.30-$.34 per mile ($36,000-$46,000 per year);
  • Experienced drivers with one year of experience will earn $.39-$.42 per mile;
  • Experienced drivers with three years of experience will earn $.40-$.43 per mile; and
  • Experienced drivers with five years-plus experience will earn $.41-$.45 per mile.

Allstate Introduces ‘Green Machine’
Eagan, Minn.-based Allstate Leasing LLC says it is thinking green by spec’ing a tractor that includes industry-leading equipment and technology so that real-world fuel performance can be seen and documented. Allstate Leasing chose a 2008 Peterbilt 387 tractor with a C15 Caterpillar engine and 13-speed Fuller transmission. It features Bridgestone tires and a rear axle ratio of 3.25. The APU is a Thermo King TriPac hybrid auxiliary idle reduction and temperature management system.


Warren Transport Driver of the Month
Warren Transport has named owner-operator Michael Fink as its June Driver of the Month. Fink joined Warren Transport as an owner-operator in the 1980s and is a three-time winner of the award, having earned it in July 1986 and March 2005.


Trucker Buddy of the Month
ACS MultiMedia honored Harvey and Karen Zander with the Trucker Buddy Driver of the Month award for July. The Zanders, who joined the Trucker Buddy program in 2000, have been matched with Pam Halverson’s fourth grade class at Humphrey Elementary School in Waverly, Minn., for the past two years.

The Zanders’ driving record, 4 million accident-free miles, and show truck, “Icy Blu 2,” a 2003 International 9900ix Eagle that has won numerous awards in truck beauty contests, were mentioned in the 22 students’ letters that accompanied the nomination.

In 1999, Harvey was the recipient of a Jefferson Award for volunteerism. In 2000, he won the National Truck Driver of the Year contest, an annual award given to one of the top five contractors in the United States and Canada by TCA and Overdrive magazine.

In addition to their Trucker Buddy volunteer work, the Zanders also teach safe driving to a high school driver’s education class. Harvey has been leased to Dart Transit for more than 20 years. The Zanders make their home in St. Louis Park, Minn.


Dart May Drivers of the Month
Dart Transit’s May 2007 Contractors of the Month are Mark Daquilla of the Dallas Operating Center and Nate Hammond of the Eagan Operating Center.

Daquilla has been in the trucking industry 25 years and has contracted with Dart since 2005. Daquilla owns and operates a 2005 Freightliner in Dart’s Super South Region.

Hammond has contracted with Dart for 18 of his 45 years in the trucking industry. Hammond owns and operates a 1994 Peterbilt with a Dart National contract.


Transport America Honors Drivers
Minnesota-based Transport America announced its May and June Drivers of the Month.

Company drivers selected for the month were Adolph Brinkman, who has been with Transport America for six months; Jerry Hearod, with the company for six years; and Martin Sankey, with Transport America for five years.

Contractors honored for the month of May were James Goodenough, with Transport America for nine months; Prince Sebie, receiving this award for the third time in his eight years at the company; and James Shepler, with Transport America for six years.

Company drivers for June were Tim Bauer, with Transport America for one year; driver instructor Greg Payne, with Transport America for 11 years; and Ricky McFadden, with the company for seven months.

Contractors honored for June were Bernard McLellon, with Transport America for 11 years; Edward Eason, with the company for nine years; and Shawn Crickmore, with the company for six months.


Decker Drivers
Decker Truck Line selected Charles Zimmerman as its July Driver of the Month for the Flatbed division. Zimmerman has been with Decker for five years. Driver of the Month for the Reefer/Van division was Joe Holmberg of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Holmberg has been with Decker for seven years.


Southern Cal Plans Expansion
Southern Cal Transport is planning an expansion and will hire 50 to 100 new positions at its Mira Loma, Calif., location. The fleet has hired Joe Alvarez as its new driver recruiter to head the move.

A former driver manager and over-the-road trainer, Alvarez brings eight years of trucking industry experience to his new tasks at Southern Cal. Alvarez is seeking drivers with a minimum of six months experience with some hazmat; drivers will have 90 days to get certified if they don’t already have clearance.


Wal-Mart Taps C.R. England
C.R. England has been selected to be a carrier for Wal-Mart Stores at its distribution center in Sterling, Ill. Wal-Mart’s refrigerated distribution center will serve stores in Illinois and Wisconsin. About 10 England employees will be on site, and nearly 80 C.R. England drivers will be involved.

Previously, Wal-Mart awarded C.R. England dedicated business in Cheyenne, Wyo., and McCarren, Nev.


CFI Drivers of the Month
International truckload carrier Contract Freighters Inc., based in Joplin, Mo., has announced its monthly driver award recipients for June 2007:

Company Driver of the Month: Thomas Andrews started driving for CFI in 1992 and has driven more than 1.7 million miles. He lives in Keller, Texas.

Company Team of the Month: Ray and Nikki Pierce began driving for CFI in 1998 and 2000, respectively. They live in Bailey, Texas, and together have driven more than 1.8 million miles.

Contractor Driver of the Month: Ramon Gonzalez began his career with CFI in 1999. He resides in Edinburg, Texas.

Contractor Team of the Month: John and Sherri Dillinger both began their careers at CFI in 1999. They reside in Grove, Okla., and together have driven more than 1.9 million miles.
