Prime Drivers Take Honors at Mo. Championships
Three Prime Inc. drivers were top award winners at the Missouri Trucking Association’s Truck Driving Championships held June 6-7 at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Joplin. Awarded were: Duane Grimme, with almost 12 years of experience, first place in the tank truck class; Michael Gandee, who’s driven almost five years, first place in the four-axle class; and Chad Daniel, a 2 1/2 year driver, pre-inspection award for the highest score assuring that a vehicle is in safe and efficient operating condition before taking the road.


Decker April and May Drivers of the Month
Decker Truck Line Inc. recently announced that John Kilmer was selected as the April 2008 Driver of the Month for the flatbed division, and Jerry Birkey was selected for the reefer/van division. Kilmer has been driving for Decker 17 years. Birkey resides in Manson, Iowa, where he enjoys golfing and riding his motorcycle.

Kirby Goos was selected as the May 2008 Driver of the Month for the flatbed division. Lynn Beckler was selected as Driver of the Month for the reefer/van division. Goos joined Decker in August 2007. Beckler, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, has been with Decker since 1985.

Drivers and owner-operators are nominated monthly by their dispatcher. They are selected based on overall performance within all areas of the company, including operational productivity, safety record, maintenance/care of equipment (including idle time), payroll, billing and customer service.


TMC Driver of the Quarter
TMC Transportation recently honored company driver Sam Galarza with the Driver of the First Quarter Award for 2008. Galarza has been a TMC driver for six years, and in 2006, he was named TMC’s Trainer of the Year.

Criteria for Driver of the Quarter recognition includes years of service with the company, safe driving record, excellent customer service, professionalism and overall quality performance. Once a driver is recognized as a Driver of the Quarter, he or she is eligible to receive the prestigious Wheel Master Award.

Arkansas Driver of Year
Jimmy Wallace, a driver for Stallion Transportation Group in Beebe, Ark., received the Arkansas Trucking Association 2007 Driver of the Year Award.

Wallace, 76, has logged more than 4 million accident-free miles and 30 consecutive years without a preventable accident. He has attended every quarterly driver meeting of the company since 2000.


FFE Named Specialized Carrier of the Year
Landstar Global Logistics Inc. named FFE Transportation Services Inc. its 2007 Specialized Carrier of the Year.

In making the selection, Landstar Global Logistics surveyed its independent agents who handle temperature-controlled and dry truckload shipments. Criteria included on-time performance, equipment availability and condition, sales representation, technology support and customer responsiveness.


Drivers Win At State
Four KLLM Transport Services drivers were top award winners at the Mississippi Trucking Association’s Truck Driving Championships held recently in Tupelo. Awarded were: Paul Brownlee, First Place Four Axle; Troy Bernard, Second Place Five Axle; Ricky Bowe, Second Place Three Axle; and Harold Sowers, Second Place Flatbed.

As a first-place winner, Paul Brownlee advanced to the National Truck Driving Championship.


Dart Transit Announces Contractors of the Month
Dart Transit Company announces its Contractors of the Month: Gary Peddycoart at the Dallas Operating Center and Chuck Lee at the Eagan Operating Center. Contractors of the Month are recognized for their on-time performance, dependability and outstanding safety record.

Peddycoart has been in the trucking industry 33 years and has contracted his truck with Dart since 2002. Lee has driven tractor-trailer since 1994 and has contracted his truck with Dart for 12 years.


A. Duie Pyle Drivers Win Championships
Leo Flack, a professional truck driver for Northeast transportation and logistics provider A. Duie Pyle, was named Grand Champion of the 2008 Pennsylvania Truck Driving Championships. The West Chester resident was the top-scoring competitor in the championship held in Morgantown. In addition, Flack joined with A. Duie Pyle teammates Jason Snyder of Media and Bill Jones of Downingtown to bring home the Pennsylvania Small Team Trophy at the prestigious competition.


Central Hauling Honors Driver With Truck
Central Hauling Co. recently presented owner-operator Ernest Knowles with the keys to a refurbished truck.

Knowles, a resident of Sophia, N.C., was awarded the truck for his successful participation in Central’s bi-yearly referral program.

The program recognizes the driver referring the most hired drivers in a six-month period. The make and model of the truck were not available at press time.
