Drivers win mentoring awards

Interstate Distributor Co. husband-and-wife team Richard and Linda Thomas have been named Trucker Buddies of the Month for July, and Walmart driver Chuck Lobsiger is honored with the same award for August, Trucker Buddy International announced.

Residents of Edgewood, N.M., the Thomases have volunteered for the last two years with students in Janet Miller’s class at Emma Elementary School in Asheville, N.C. The couple has mentored in the program for three years.

Lobsiger, a resident of Ocala, Fla., has helped students in Nancy Morrison’s first grade class at Irby Elementary School in Alachua, Fla., since 2007.


IMTA honors West Side driver

Will Parrish, driver for Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based West Side Transport, received the Oustanding Professional Driver Award from the Iowa Motor Truck Association in September. Parrish has been with West Side for 15 years and has more than 1.7 million safe-driving miles.



Choptank named Partner of the Year by Feeding America

Preston, Md.-based Choptank Transport was named Logistics Partner of the Year by domestic hunger relief charity Feeding America. The refrigerated, dry van and flatbed less-than-truckload carrier received the award in August at the Food Sourcing and Operations Conference in Chicago.



Crete opens Tennessee terminal

Lincoln, Neb.-based Crete Carrier opened a Knoxville, Tenn., terminal in September. The terminal has an office, driver center, tractor-trailer shop, technician lounge, training room, truck wash and fuel island. The terminal can be accessed from exits 364 and 362 on Interstate 40. Physical address is 2229 West Buttermilk Road, Lenoir City, Tenn.

 

 

Averitt recognized by TTA

The Tennessee Trucking Association awarded Averitt Express with a Clean Diesel Leadership Award in September. The award recognizes organizations that have made measurable improvements in air quality or implemented actions for cleaner diesel.
