Sunco Carriers driver, TCA Owner-Operator of the Year finalist and Overdrive’s April 2012 Owner-Operator of the Month Jimmy McSwain died Tuesday morning. He was 52.

Close friend and fellow owner-operator Jerry Homuth said McSwain is thought to have suffered a heart attack while unloading his trailer. Homuth cites the “invisible trucker” image when describing McSwain, saying his professionalism was unparalleled.

“He was a model owner-operator for anyone in the business,” Homuth said. “While Jimmy was a man of few words, he was always very well-spoken, and you knew that whatever he had to say was worthwhile.”

Homuth met McSwain in 1992 when McSwain began working for Sunco carriers.

“Jimmy placed great importance on doing the right thing, regardless of the circumstances,” Homuth said.

McSwain is survived by his two children, Ashley and Brandon. He is a finalist for TCA’s 2012 Owner-Operator of the Year.
