Freightliner parent company Daimler Trucks North America has recalled more than 45,000 Freightliner Cascadia model trucks due to a software glitch is causing daytime running lights to turn off, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported in March.

The defect is affecting all 2013 and 2014 year-model Cascadias built between May 7, 2012 and March 2, 2013. The issue, says DTNA, occurs when a driver activates the turn signal β€” part of which also functions as a daytime running light β€” which then does not stay illuminated after the turn signal is deactivated.

Daimler says it is notifying all customers, dealers and distributors by May 15, but it has not yet determined how it will fix the problem.

Affected truck owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712.
