For the third week in a row, the average price of diesel fuel dropped, albeit slightly, across the U.S.
The price of a gallon of on-highway diesel dropped a penny to $2.389 per gallon nationwide during the week ending Sept. 19, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.
Prices decreased in all regions across the country with the most significant decrease coming in the West Coast less California region, where prices fell 2.9 cents.
The nation’s most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.754 per gallon, followed by the West Coast less California region at $2.524 per gallon.
The cheapest fuel is in the Gulf Coast region at $2.242 per gallon, followed by the Lower Atlantic region at $2.316 per gallon.
Prices in other regions, according to the DOE, are:
- New England – $2.405
- Central Atlantic – $2.485
- Midwest – $2.366
- Rocky Mountain – $2.482
ProMiles’ numbers during the same week also have the average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel dropping one cent, but to $2.352 nationwide
According to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index, the most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.733 per gallon, and the cheapest can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.241 per gallon.
