GATS health walk next Friday

The Trucking Solutions Group is a fine crew of owner-operators, originally banding together to discuss various business solutions themselves and, over the year, expanding that to open up to the entire industry for information sharing. I’ve of course written about the couple of calls they’ve hosted with none other than FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro (always interesting discussions, for sure) and more, but one of their main contributions to the industry has been the promotion of the need for maintaining good health.

Their 61+ Health Awareness Walk (named after the average life expectancy age for truck drivers, a number they hope to help boost), launched three years ago and held at major truck shows throughout the year annually, sees its next installment at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas next week. I’ll be joining the crew — among them owner-operator Scott Grenerth, pictured — at the start at 8 p.m. in room D168 in the convention center.

There’s no cost to participate in the 1.5-mile walk, but advance registration is required via truckingsolutionsgroup.org.

The TSG will also be conducting, in partnership with the American Red Cross and Overdrive publisher Randall-Reilly Business Media, its annual blood drive all three days of the show. The blood drive will be held in booth #21038. Hours for the blood drive:

Thursday, August 23: Noon-4 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Organizers add: “Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, which creates the need for 38,000 blood donations every day. Less than 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood making the goal of 38,000 donations per day a daunting challenge. Because blood cannot be manufactured, the American Red Cross depends on the generosity of its donors to maintain their supply.”

Hope to see you out at the walk.
