Hard-Working Beauties

STAYING WITH STRIPES

Mark Andersen of Durango, Colo., has replaced most of his 1984 Peterbilt 359 piece by piece. When he bought it in 1994, it needed new fenders, bumper and other body pieces as well as an engine, motor and transmission. The truck lacks only one change – a paint job. Even though Anderson’s not going to keep the blue, he’s keeping the stripes, although they’ll be black-on-white. The truck has a 3406B Caterpillar and a 13-speed overdrive transmission. Andersen hauls construction equipment on a lowboy trailer as an independent.

LOVELY LOG HAULER

Camille Carnaggio and his son Eric of Hester, La., use their 1995 Peterbilt 379 to haul building materials for the family lumber business, which has been in operation since 1949. A 425-hp Caterpillar lives under the hood. Chrome and lights add extra sparkle to the outside while wood floors, a wood CD player console and chrome switches on the dash add a little luster inside.
