Hard-Working Beauties

FEEDING THE FAMILY MILL

Richard Hatfield and sons Josh and Abe, of Linn, Mo., use their 1984 International cabover to haul logs into their family-owned sawmill. The rig, converted from a road tractor into a log-hauling truck, has a 400-hp Cummins engine, 13-speed Eaton transmission, dual exhaust and a Serco 8000 boom. The Hatfields say exceptional upkeep keeps the rig ready to haul logs at a moment’s notice.

WHERE’S THE FIRE?

Ross Belloir of Roseburg, Ore., fights wildland fires with his 1994 Kenworth T800. The rig sports a 470-hp Detroit Series 60 engine, 13-speed Eaton transmission and two-speed Eaton rear ends. Belloir says his water tender, which he built from scratch, did exceptionally well during 50 days of wildfires this year. The truck includes a Paul’s Tank 800 gallon-per-minute pump, Hale pressure pump and Robwin foam unit to douse the flames.
