Helpful partner — Western Express driver Derek Dorsey

Dsc 0171Not only is longtime Western Express driver Derek Dorsey a great asset to the Nashville, Tenn.-headquartered fleet — company recruiting director Matt Neal calls him “our go-to guy, great with customers, great with training new drivers” and “one of our absolute best” — he’s also quite accommodating to everyone he meets, including writer-photographers like me. When I rode along with him to Atlanta from Nashville and back as part of the “Gridlock” feature in this month’s edition of Truckers News, he even went so far as to stop unprompted at the top Dsc 0211of Monteagle Mountain to clear up my picture-taking view through the windshield of the 2010 company Freightliner Cascadia he drives.

Thanks goes out to Dorsey, and as for the rest of you, enjoy the following vid with him, a tour through his long experience of fighting highway congestion in urban centers as a routine driver of I-95 through the Bronx and elsewhere, as in this tour around Atlanta on I-285 right around 5 p.m. in late September. And for more of my run with the Western Express driver, read my part of the congestion package in Truckers News‘ November issue. An image gallery, too, from the haul follows. Enjoy.
