An unsuccessful war is one you lose. A war where you destroy your own people, your own country and your own political and judicial system and your own police force would I hope be considered a bit more than unsuccessful. Suicidal, stupid, pathological are all modifiers that might be added to the word “war” to strive to describe the totality of failure this monstrous disaster has been. Merely using the number of dollars squandered and lives ruined paints only a shadow of the scope of this epic failure.

The drug war has destroyed civil discourse, rule of law, respect for civil liberties and the individual upon whom the very state relies on for both financial support and moral authority to rule. A century squandered will be how the future will remember the fools of this era. We who lived through the 20th century and into the 21st watched how a common plant was used to turn brother on brother and destroy families and communities. Cannabis is a very handy plant as its proper name Cannabis Sativa literally translates to useful cannabis. Most thought it was only useful for food, fuel, fiber and medicine, but a small group of deranged individuals managed to use it to conduct a pogrom, to ethnically cleanse our republic of any they found deviant or repugnant.

Did the founding fathers ever think the 4th amendment would be superseded by the phrase “I think I smell marijuana” which allows the police to search anyone and anything, anywhere and anytime, usually with guns drawn and often after breaking down a door or performing a swat raid.

If people would examine the drug instead of having knee jerk style reactions they would see its a very good drug for Arthritis, Head aches, Cramps from Menstrual issues, Cataract pain, and on and on…Too many people still BELIEVE the REEFER MADNESS Style propaganda against this plant. Marijuana should be legalized and taxed and sold to those 21 and over for recreational and medical use. The war on drugs has been lost long ago on POT Hemp would compete with cotton for many products and thats the reason its so denigrated as evil, HEMP can be used for so many things and is a durable product. I think this poll speaks volumes about what people want, and enjoy and would use if it were legal, I also dont think it will be long before the voters decide they want this approved. Think of the number of inmates were supporting in jails nationwide for pot busts, Like Americas Oldest Profession its time it was legalized.

Just what I want – my family driving down the road while someone high on drugs coming in the opposite direction in their car or semi truck.
I helped pick up a driver off the highway that was high on marijuana when he took another car head on. Ever felt how rubbery a arm feels when its shattered. He was dead so he didn’t care how much his arm stretched when we put him on the stretcher. I’ll never forget it. I’ll also never forget the guy he killed in the other auto. He’d been working in southern Utah for the week in construction and was within 1/2 mile of the turn to his little home town of Wallsburg in northern Utah when he was hit. He had two young kids at home that had just lost their mother to cancer a couple months before. The grand parents were taking care of them while the dad worked.
Other people have rights too! The right not to be killed or maimed by some selfish ass high on drugs!!!

Other people have rights too! The right not to be killed or maimed by some selfish ass drunk on alcohol!!! See what I did there. You can fearmonger with alcohol too, yet strangely, nobody seems to be calling for the prohibition of alcohol. Also, I don’t want my surgeon drinking alcohol before operating on me, or the pilot flying the plane I am a passenger on. Nor do i want the driver of my childs school bus drunk on alcohol . I think we should BAN alcohol. Won’t somebody please think of the children? http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/misc/driving/driving.htm

the above is a link to RUN FROM THE CURE – FULL VERSION on you tube is the best reason to legalize.

corporate greed has blocked legalization, the people know how safe this herb is and choose to ignore the law. whether you use this in place of a few stiff drinks of alcohol, use it to diminish anxiety, or to cure your cancer is of no concern to the govt. just like anything, responsible use is a requirement. if you cant manage that, then govt response is warranted and welcomed.

well stated. i retired from law enforcement after 18 years. i also worked narcotics for several years. everything you state is spot on.

I remember when President Richard Millhouse Nixon declared the “war on drugs”. People laughed at it then and people laugh at it now. We are further behind now then we were when it first started. All we have done is make criminals out of our own citizens. If there is a “demand” for something there will always be a “supply”. What have we really gained in 40+ years in this so called war? We are throwing good money after bad. Why not legalize all drugs and tax them and use money towards education? Other Countries have done this and they report their drug use is down. I don’t have all the answers but I know what we are doing is not working!

  • Butch

Yes I have. I worked for a Coroner in Omaha,NE for over a year picking up dead bodies. Drunk driving along with marijuana is against the Law—has it stopped or deterred any of what you talk about? People who want to are going to make bad decisions whether illegal or legal. People make bad decisions, fact of life. As cold as that sounds it’s true.

Here is hoping you get cancer and then we’ll see how you feel when they start chemo. Its not pretty. Probably safer than a teenager or adult texting and driving.

I agree 100% I was offering a reply, albeit a sarcastic one, to justsayno’s post. As a former 911 operator/public safety dispatcher & volunteer firefighter, I have been involved in incidents like this. No amount of laws and severe penalties are going to stop people from consuming these substances. Marijuana is currently illegal under federal law, yet this person justsayno speaks of (and millions of others, by the way) managed to get their hands on marijuana. If prohibition works, why is there marijuana available in our schools? Heck even prisoners have access to it. If you can’t keep it out of schools and prisons, PROHIBITION ISN’T WORKING. Also, there is no definitive way to tell if the person that allegedly caused the incident was high at the time, or if they had smoked a few days before the tragic accident. You can’t legislate morality.

well, that sure escalated quickly. wishing cancer on someone? classy.

Can’t take the heat, probably stay out of the kitchen. Indica strain does not make you high in the amounts taken for cancer and arthiritis. Justsayno is incorrect in using the analogy of legalizing drugs will kill people. Does that mean my baseball bat should be outlawed. Make the punishment equal the crime. Hemp oils have been used for 5000 years in curing many ailments. Wish we had it when my family member died of cancer. I am tired of the phama companies allowing people to die so they can reap the profits. More people die from chemo than the cancer. Just sayin……. If you have not had cancer, try it sometime and you will be on the net trying to find the oil.
