Clint Dicks “Orange Crush” won the Tractor Trailer and Lights categories.
After growing up in Florida, owner-operator Clint Dicks is used to the heat. But 125 degrees on the asphalt can test even the most dedicated show truckers.
“It’s brutal out here out on the blacktop,” says Dicks, who was competing at the 24th annual Shell Rotella T SuperRigs truck beauty show in Sacramento, Calif., in late June. For Dicks, the effort of polishing in the record heat paid off as his truck took first place in the Tractor Trailer division and won Best Lights.
Other truckers, like Les Sullivan, were delighted to make the 2007 Rotella T SuperRigs calendar, which is photographed in conjunction with the show. Sullivan’s Western Star 496EX was shot at a winery in nearby Napa Valley.
“It was beautiful. There were acres and miles of grapes,” Sullivan said after he returned from his photo shoot. “It was hard to get the truck back in there. I’m glad it was just the bobtail.”
Tom and Kim Turner’s tan and gold 1995 Peterbilt 379, which is dubbed “El Dorado” and won Best of Show in 2005, repeated as Best of Show for 2006.
