I-10 detour set for Louisiana

Beginning Oct. 4, heavy trucks using I-10 in Louisiana will be rerouted to the I-210 loop around Lake Charles until repair work is completed on the Calcasieu River Bridge in 2012, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said.

Local traffic will continue to use I-10 in both directions but not on the bridge, the department said.

A department spokesman encouraged truckers to use the I-210 bridge under no normal conditions because it carries less traffic and the approach is less steep.
