I-40 section reduced to one lane

Updated Oct 30, 2009

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will reduce Interstate 40 East and West in Fayette County to one lane this weekend as work to repair five bridges continues. Starting at 8 p.m. CT, Friday, Oct. 30, I-40 between mile markers 33 and 34 will be reduced to one lane. Regular traffic flow will resume at 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2.

This weekend’s lane reduction is one of the final weekend lane closures planned on I-40 as crews work to repair the bridge deck surfaces on five interstate bridges east of Memphis in Fayette County.

Troopers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on site in the work zone to provide traffic control as the work is being completed.

TDOT advises motorists to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
