405 freeway to be closed in Los Angeles

A 5.5-mile section of Interstate 405 through Los Angeles will be closed for five consecutive nights starting Tuesday, Oct. 12, to allow contractors to tear down a bridge through the Sepulveda Pass.

The work to clear space for a new carpool lane requires freeway closures between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Oct. 16. Transportation officials estimate it could take double or triple the amount of time to get through the area.

Officials says the southbound 405 from Burbank Boulevard to Getty Center Drive, as well as the two inside northbound lanes, will be closed at 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Workers will close the northbound 405 from Getty Center Drive to Ventura Boulevard and the two inside southbound lanes Thursday and Friday nights. The northbound 405 will be reduced to three lanes Saturday night.

Sepulveda Boulevard, which parallels the 405 through the closure area, will be the primary detour route.
