I-435 in Kansas City to be closed

Interstate 435 will be closed between 23rd Street and I-70 in Kansas City, Mo., for up to 53 hours over July 9-12 to remove the Route 40 bridge over I-435.

Beginning 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 10, northbound and southbound I-435 will be closed to all traffic until 5 a.m. Monday, July 12, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Intermittent lanes of both northbound and southbound I-435 at Route 40 will be closed at times to prepare for demolition. Motorists should expect various lane closures from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, July 9.

Also, the westbound ramp from I-70 to northbound I-435 and the eastbound ramp from I-70 to northbound I-435 will close at various times beginning 10 p.m. July 9 through 5 a.m. July 12

Through traffic on southbound I-435 will be diverted to I-35. Through traffic on northbound I-435 will be diverted to westbound I-70 and northbound I-35. Message boards, detour signs and Kansas City Scout message boards will direct motorists during the closure.

The work is part of the $39 million project to add three lanes to I-70 in each direction and improve the interchange at I-435. It also will include the removal and replacement this winter of the Blue Ridge Cutoff (George Brett) Bridge over I-70.
