I-5 construction work begins in Bellingham, Wash.

The onramp to northbound Interstate 5 at the Northwest Avenue interchange in Bellingham, Wash., will close for two weeks starting today, June 21.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said the city of Bellingham is closing the ramp to help facilitate construction of a new roundabout at the interchange.

Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes during the closure. The detour route will shuttle drivers to the Bakerview Road interchange. Once this two-week-long closure is finished, crews then will close Northwest Avenue between the north- and southbound I-5 ramps for two more weeks – again to facilitate construction of the roundabout.
