Idaho rest area to be closed

A heavily used rest area in central Idaho will be closed for repairs for the summer beginning on May 3.

The rest area, located at the junction of U.S. 20 and Idaho Highway 75, will get an estimated $2 million makeover to add five parking spaces and create separate areas for trucks and passenger cars.

The Idaho Transportation Department says the rest area needs to be expanded because traffic will double in the next 20 years.

The rest area is scheduled to reopen in September.
