The Ontario Trucking Association donated $2,500 to the Canadian Red Cross and $2,500 to the Salvation Army for delivering food and water to truck drivers as they waited in traffic or were forced to park in truck holding areas while they attempted to cross the Canada-U.S. border in recent weeks.

TMI-MultiMedia Recruiting, in conjunction with Company Store supplier Continental Marketing Group, will donate a percentage of e-commerce proceeds to the Red Cross.

TravelCenters of America agreed to match the first $50,000 it collected for the American Red Cross through the end of September.

Bridgestone/Firestone and its parent company, Bridgestone, are donating an initial $1.1 million to the Red Cross, with more to come from a fund-raising drive among Bridgestone companies worldwide.

Tosco Corp. is donating fuel, delivered under police escort, to relief vehicles in New York City.

Yellow Corporation is donating $100,000 to the disaster relief fund of the American Red Cross.

FedEx Corp. will contribute $2 million to relief efforts in New York City and Washington D.C. The contribution will include $500,000 each in cash contributions to the American Red Cross and the United Way’s September 11 Fund, as well as $1 million to in-kind services.

Kenworth of Atlanta, Preferred Transport and five Clear Channel radio stations in Atlanta collected gloves, goggles, construction boots, and other supplies for New York City rescue workers. Preferred Transport used a new Kenworth W900 from the dealership to deliver the goods.

Williams TravelCenters is donating $1 million to the United Way of America to support its relief efforts.

Jevic Transportation says it is delivering to relief efforts in New York City supplies and emergency equipment gathered by the Salvation Army’s eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware division.

Texaco and Chevron, which are merging, are donating $5 million to the relief effort.

Michelin Group will give $1 million to assist the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Michelin also will provide an on-site service truck and a technical expert in the Ground Zero area 24 hours a day, seven days a week to service emergency vehicles. It will give up to $250,000 in Michelin tires to help maintain the operation of the vehicles.

Wal-Mart Logistics in Marcy, N.Y., is coordinating a nationwide effort in which water and medical supplies will be trucked in to the Marcy terminal from Wal-Mart distribution centers, then transferred to the stricken areas by Wal-Mart’s Marcy drivers.

J.R. Christiano and Sons Trucking volunteered the use of a tractor and reefer trailers.

Four Volvo VHD dump trucks left the company’s Greensboro, N.C., headquarters Sept. 14 for New York City. Earlier in the week, the company volunteered all its Mack and Volvo equipment in the New York area for recovery efforts. The four trucks were part of a fleet of 50 the New York City requested. The other dump trucks will come from various locations, mostly Volvo dealers in New York.

Texaco, Chevron, Kenworth and Michelin began fund drives.
